It was the gathering of Champions at the grand opening ceremony of Pre-Inauguration of Prince Dapo Abiodun as the 5th Executive Governor of Ogun State, with the theme: "Good Governance and Public Administration" was held this morning at the June 12 Cultural Center, Abeokuta with Mr. Fola Adeola serving as Chairman of the occasion.
Professor Pat Utomi gave the keynote Address. During his lecture, the Professor of Political Economy harped on the importance of training and re-training of civil servants whom he described as the engine room of any government. He advised that my administration should tackle unemployment; insecurity and education.
A Panel of discussants also proferred their views on the subject matter. The panel includes; Dr Tunde Oseni, Head of Department, Politics and International Relations, Lead City University, Ibadan; Dr (Mrs) Christiana Famro, former Head of SERVICOM in the Presidency and the Pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Professor J.A Makinde.
They all discussed extensively on the need for the incoming administration to strengthen the public service so as to promote professionalism and quality service delivery. Professor Makinde specifically explained the importance of being competent as a governor with a good character while displaying the needed courage to paddle the affairs of Ogun State.
While giving address, Dapo Abiodun assured the people of Ogun State that his administration will hit the ground running and tackle all the challenges currently being experienced by the people.
He reported that we have collated a list of basic needs of the people across all the local governments in Ogun State. These include rural and township roads, primary health care centres, public primary and secondary schools, with the indication of their current condition and categorisation as to the required efforts to turn around their fortunes.
On a final note, The governor elect pointed out that his commitment to serve the people of the Gateway State will be based on: consensus-building; accountability; respect for the rule of law; equitable and inclusive government among others.
Among the dignitaries that graced the historical event including Retired General Oladipupo Diya, Retired Captain Raji, former Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel; former Deputy Governors Prince Segun Adesegun and Alhaja Salmot Badru, Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Alh. Suraj Adekunbi, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, Pastor Remi Hassan, Olumide Osoba. Traditional Rulers, National Assembly members, House of Assembly Members, Captains of Industries, NCWS, NULGE, NUT, NUJ, NLC, TUC,NMA,NURTW,RETEAN, ACOMORAN, AMORAN, NATA amongst many others that graced the occasion
