Tribute To The Amazon Of Music, Ivon Nad Great Legendary, Onyeka Onwenu Dies At 72

Onyeka Onwenu, a renowned Nigerian singer, actress, journalist, and politician, passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on January 31, 1952, in Obosi, Anambra State, Onwenu's illustrious career spanned several decades and multiple fields. She was fondly known as the "Elegant Stallion" due to her grace and poise.

Onwenu's music career began in 1981 with the release of her debut album "For the Love of You," blending highlife, reggae, and pop music. Some of her most famous songs include "One Love," "Iyogogo," and "Ekwe." Her music often addressed social and political issues, reflecting her deep commitment to activism.

In addition to her musical achievements, Onwenu was a prominent actress, starring in numerous Nollywood films such as "Half of a Yellow Sun" and "Lionheart." She also made significant contributions to Nigerian journalism and politics, serving as the Executive Director/CEO of the National  Centre    for Women Development and the Chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture 

Onwenu's death was reported to have occurred after she collapsed at the 80th birthday party of Stella Okoli, the owner of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, and was later pronounced dead at Reddington Hospital in Lagos 
 Her passing marks the end of an era for a multifaceted artist and advocate who left an indelible mark on Nigeria's cultural and political landscape.
