Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs)
H.E. Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire is a distinguished public servant, administrator, and grassroots politician, serving as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs). In this role, she provides strategic direction, leadership, and coordination for Nigeria’s implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and represents the country on SDG matters globally.
Career & Public Service
With over 30 years of national and sub-national public service, Princess Orelope-Adefulire has been a driving force in women, youth, and vulnerable persons’ empowerment. She made history as the first female lawmaker in Lagos State, elected to the State House of Assembly in 1992, and later served as Lagos State Deputy Governor (2011–2015) while also acting as Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
She championed the Child Rights Law and Domestic Violence Law, established 22 Skills Acquisition Centres, and a 176-bed transit home for domestic violence victims. She has led programs in women and youth economic empowerment, education infrastructure, healthcare, and vocational skills development.
Awards & Recognition
Her exemplary contributions have earned her numerous accolades, including the National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR, 2022), the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM, 2023), and the United Nations SDGs Champions Award. Internationally, she has received the International Public Servant of the Year Award (2007, UK), the Daisey George Award (2010, USA), and recognition from the International Women’s Society (2018). She also holds a Guinness World Record for the largest children reading aloud session with an adult (2011).
Education & Personal Life
Princess Orelope-Adefulire holds a BSc (Hons) in Sociology, a Diploma in Social Work, and an Honorary Doctor of Arts in Poverty Alleviation and Technology Incubation from Lagos State University (LASU). She is married to Chief Abiodun Akinmola Adefulire and is blessed with children.
