Professional Profile of Mrs. Miriam Chidiebele Olusanya FCIB. The Managing Director And Chief Executive Officer Guaranty Trust Bank

Mrs. Miriam Chidiebele Olusanya is the Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank (Nigeria) Limited, a position she has held since July 2021. Her appointment marked a historic milestone as she became the first female to lead the bank in its over three-decade history, reflecting a significant advancement in gender diversity within Nigeria’s banking sector.

A seasoned and accomplished banking professional, Mrs. Olusanya has over 25 years of extensive experience in the financial services industry. She began her career at Guaranty Trust Bank in 1998 as an Executive Trainee and has since built a distinguished career within the institution.

 Her expertise spans asset and liability management, financial markets, investment banking, corporate finance, and investor relations.

Prior to her current role, she served as Group Treasurer and Head of Wholesale Banking, where she successfully managed the bank’s Naira and foreign currency balance sheets, as well as its financial market operations across African subsidiaries. Her strategic leadership in treasury and wholesale banking significantly contributed to the bank’s sustained growth and stability.

Mrs. Olusanya holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) degree from the University of Ibadan (1995) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance and Accounting from the University of Liverpool (2011).

She has also held several key governance positions, including serving as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Guaranty Trust Bank (Gambia) Limited, as well as on the boards of the Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) and the Shared Agent Network Expansion Facilities (SANEF). Additionally, she is a member of the Financial Markets Sub-Committee of the Bankers’ Committee.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the financial sector, she was conferred with the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) in 2023 by the President of Nigeria. In the same year, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Group CEO of GTCO, acknowledging her exceptional dedication and long-standing impact within the organization.
