His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Abdulfatai Akorede Akamo, Agbodere I, is the revered Olu of Itori in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria. A distinguished traditional ruler and visionary leader, he has played a transformative role in the socio-economic development of Itori, repositioning the town from a modest rural settlement into a fast-emerging industrial hub.

Born on October 1, 1960—coinciding with Nigeria’s Independence Day—Oba Akamo ascended the throne in 2004. As of early 2026, he has marked over two decades of impactful leadership, including his 22nd coronation anniversary. Fondly referred to as the “Diamond King,” his reign is widely recognized for its focus on sustainable development, community empowerment, and progressive governance.

Prior to his ascension, Oba Akamo was a successful entrepreneur in the travel and business sector. His personal story is one of resilience and determination, having experienced humble beginnings that included hawking as a child and growing up without a mother. These formative experiences have deeply influenced his enduring commitment to philanthropy and social welfare.
Under his leadership, Itori has witnessed remarkable infrastructural and economic advancement. He spearheaded the construction of a modern Aafin Olu Itori (Royal Palace), transforming previously underutilized swampy terrain into a dignified administrative and cultural landmark.

A strong advocate for economic growth, Oba Akamo has strategically attracted industrial investments to Itori by leveraging his business networks. This has significantly contributed to job creation, increased commercial activities, and the town’s rising profile as an industrial destination.

In the area of education and youth empowerment, he has championed the establishment of several institutions, including an ICT Polytechnic located along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway. This initiative reflects his commitment to equipping young people with technical and digital skills necessary for the modern economy.

Oba Akamo’s reign is equally distinguished by his extensive philanthropic efforts.

He has consistently supported vulnerable members of society through direct interventions. Notably, during his 21st coronation anniversary, he paid the medical bills of 21 indigent patients at the General Hospital in Abeokuta. He is also a regular benefactor of the Stella Obasanjo Motherless Home, where he demonstrates personal empathy stemming from his own childhood experiences.

Additionally, he empowers individuals within his community by providing financial assistance and resources to support small businesses and livelihood restoration. His inclusive leadership style emphasizes both economic opportunity and social well-being.

A forward-thinking monarch, Oba Akamo has also been a vocal advocate for positioning Itori as a strategic hub within Nigeria’s transport network, particularly highlighting its importance as a key terminus in the Lagos–Ibadan railway project.

On the home front, he was happily married to Olori Olabisi Aduke Faderara, and their union is blessed with princes and princesses.

Through his visionary leadership, compassion, and unwavering dedication to development, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Abdulfatai Akorede Akamo, Agbodere I, continues to exemplify the ideals of modern traditional rulership in Nigeria. Copyright Ace Magazine Media
