Meet Barrister Tokunbo Wahab, The Very Resourceful, Energetic, Grandbreaking Commissioner In Nigeria And The Recipient of Ace Awards 2025

Barrister Tokunbo Philip Wahab is a prominent Nigerian legal practitioner and politician currently serving as the Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources in Lagos State. Known for his "zero-tolerance" approach to environmental infractions, he has become a key figure in Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administration. 
Current Role & Initiatives
Appointed to his current position in late 2023, Wahab oversees the environmental sustainability of Africa's largest megacity.

His tenure has been marked by Waste Management Reform: Leading the "Waste to Wealth" initiative, which aims to transition Lagos from a linear waste system to a circular economy model, including waste-to-energy projects in Epe.


Environmental Enforcement: spearheading the ban on Styrofoam and single-use plastics to prevent drainage blockages and flooding.
Urban Renewal: Executing the demolition of illegal structures built on drainage channels and system rights-of-way to mitigate flood risks.
Public Safety: Coordinating raids against illegal squatters and miscreants on rail tracks and under-bridge areas to improve security. 


By professional & academic background.: Tokunbo is a  seasoned lawyer with over 20 years of experience, he is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the International Bar Association (IBA). He is a partner at the law firm Wali & Ace.

He is  an alumnus of the University of Benin, he has also completed executive programs at prestigious global institutions, including the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

His was previously serves as the Special Adviser on Education to Governor Sanwo-Olu, where he was credited with improving the standards of Lagos State tertiary institutions before his present appointment as the honourable commissioner for environment 

Political Party 
Wahab is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In 2014, at the age of 42, he was the youngest gubernatorial aspirant on the APC platform during the lead-up to the 2015 general elections in Lagos State.
