Dr. Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin, widely known as Makaman Gusau, is a distinguished Nigerian labour leader, transport industry veteran, and businessman. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Global Vice President of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), representing African transport workers on the global stage.
Career & Union Leadership
Dr. Yasin’s journey in organised labour reflects a rare rise from the grassroots to global leadership.
Began his career as a conductor and commercial driver in the old Sokoto State.
Rose steadily through the ranks of the NURTW, eventually serving as its National President for eight years.
Later appointed Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the NURTW.
Served as Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), contributing to national labour advocacy and workers’ welfare.
At the international level, he is an Executive Board Member of the ITF, where he actively represents African transport workers and has participated in high-level global meetings, including recent engagements in Brazil.
